There is a lot of confusion around the purpose of a cheat meal. Many people believe that if they are on a healthy eating plan they must eat cleanly 100% of the time. However studies have shown that cheat meals can be beneficial both mentally and physically.
Mentally: Having a cheat meal can actually help you stayed motivated and on track. It allows you to have the food you love and stop feeling deprived.
“When you plan a cheat day on your diet once a week, you can look forward to rewarding yourself for your hard work. Every time you feel the temptation throughout the week to stray off of your diet, you’ll be able to remind yourself that you will have that treat on your cheat day and you’ll find the temptation less strong than if you’d told yourself you can never touch that unhealthy food again.”
Physically: Did you know that having a cheat can actually make you lose weight faster? This is because having a higher calorie days boosts your metabolism! It keeps you body on the edge because it does not get use to having only a low amount of calories.
"Having a cheat day boosts your metabolism in many ways. One way it boosts your metabolism is by increasing leptin levels. Leptin is a hormone that influences hunger and body fat levels. When you diet and cut your calories, your leptin levels also drop. This causes those extreme hunger signals, and as a result, your body will hold onto body fat thinking that it’s going to need it to survive in the future. Leptin levels are directly correlated with your total caloric intake. Low calories lower leptin levels. By having a cheat day, you give your body a chance to “reset” your hormone levels – leptin included."
So there you go! Do not feel bad about indulging in your favorite meals! and like always everything in moderation :)
(Special note: I do not encourage cheating on your significant other, school work, taxes or anything else.. just dont do it)

Most of if not all can see the positive affects of eating natural clean food. We try to eliminate artificial chemical and preservatives from our diets. Yet with our skincare we are fine slathering these chemical ridden things on ourselves. I realized that I did not need them a while ago, since then my skin has honestly never been better. I went from having to take prescribed medication for my acne to getting maybe 1 pimple a month. So here are my tips and recipes for natural skin care :)
Face Wash:
Jojoba, Baking Soda and Honey

-Do not be afraid to try this if you have oily skin. It can actually make your skin a lot less oily. Think about it, water cannot dissolve oil but oil adheres to oil.
Mix 4 tbsp jojoba oil with 2 tbsp baking soda and 1 tbsp honey . The jojoba oil helps remove excess oil dirt and makeup and moisturizes your skin. The baking soda is a natural exfoliator that will remove the dead skin cells. Honey is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial that helps prevent acne from happening.
Oil Cleansing Method
-This method will take a while to get use to but it honestly makes your skin so clear, soft and glowy. Initially you may break out but after 2-3 weeks your skin will get use to it. Find the combination best for your skin:
For dry skin – use 1 part castor oil to 9 parts olive or sunflower oil. (This is the ratio I use)
For normal or combination skin – use 2 parts castor oil to 8 parts olive or sunflower oil.
For oily skin – use 3 parts castor oil to 7 parts olive or sunflower oil.
Massage into your face until all your makeup (if you wear it) comes off or about a minute. Remove using a warm wash cloth.
Face Scrubs
Olive Oil, Lemon, Salt or Sugar.
-Mix olive oil and lemon. Add salt if you have oily/combination skin or sugar if you have dry/sensitive skin. Add the sugar or salt until you get a gritty texture. Massage onto face for about a minute.
Tomato Face Scrub
-Tomatoes can be very beneficial for the skin. They contain Vitamin C and Alpha hydroxyl acids that will brighten and soften your skin. Also the contain lycopene which helps protect your skin against free radicals.
Slice the tomato at the top where the stem is. You will be using the stem to hold on to the tomato. Dip it in sugar. Rub the tomato around your face to exfoliate.
Face Masks
Greek Yogurt Mask

Yogurt contains lactic acid which helps exfoliate and smooth skin. It is great to sooth dry and sensitive skin, but is also great on oily skin.
Mix 1/2 cup of greek yogurt with the juice of a lemon and 1 tbsp of honey. Spread on face and leave on for 20 minutes.
Variations:
-You can add 1 tsp of tumeric powder. This will help give you a glowing look.

-Add 1/4 cup smashed strawberries, they are a natural source of salicylic acid ehich helps cure and prevent acnes.
-Add uncooked all natural oatmeal for dry and sensitive skin.
Toners
Lemon Juice
This helps get rid of all dead skin cells. Mix equal parts lemon and water and apply using a cotton ball or pad. This can sting, do not wash off.
Lavender Oil or Tea tree Oil
Apply directly on face using a cotton ball or pad, do not wash off.
Moisturizers
Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil
Olive oil is a great moisturizer and works in the same way as the oil cleansing method. Massage in a small amount onto face, do not rinse off.

Calcium for weight loss

-Calcium has numerous benefits, from strengthening your bones and teeth to preventing osteoporosis. Did you know that calcium can also aid in weight loss?
-When we are not receiving a proper amount of calcium our body will increase the size of our fat cells.

-This is because when we lack calcium our body conserves it which prompts your body to make more calcitriol a hormone that increases fat cells. When calcium levels are high this hormone is suppressed.
-Apart from dairy milk calcium is found in numerous things:
-cheese
-yogurt
-almond milk
-soy milk
-flax milk
-hemp milk
-almonds
-salmon
-spinach
-broccoli
-beans
-kale
-& many others.
-There are also calcium fortified juices and grains.
Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium which is why dairy milk is usually fortified with it. You can also get Vitamin D from the sun, fatty fishes, egg yolks, and supplements.

The temperature we drink our water at can actually affect what it does for us!
Cold water- Boosts metabolism! This is because when you drink cold water your body must work harder to warm it up in your body. All of the things we drink need to be heated up or cooled to our bodies natural body temperature. Also cold water help push out toxins and food.
Room temperature water- Helps you stay full for longer! Warm water does not push out food as fast as cold water therefore it sits in your stomach for longer helping you feel fuller.
Hot water- Works in the same way cold water does, it is said that drinking a mug of hot water with lemon in the morning before breakfast can help boost your metabolism all day! however it does not hydrate as easily.
No matter the temperature you should always drink up!

Walking in the aisles of the grocery store can be overwhelming. There are so many things popping up with clever advertisements that make us think “hey this must be good for”. Well things arent always as it seems and advertisers know how to twist things to make them appear better than they are.

Here are some of the seemingly “healthy” food that are really not:

Frozen Packaged Food- These packaged frozen foods use wors such as “lean” “smart” and “healthy” to sell you their product. While they are low in calories, they are full of ingredients you would not be able to pronounce. They also contain huge amounts of sodium.

Next time you are in the frozen food isle look for packages with no preservative, simple ingredients, and low sodium.
Veggie Chips- What could be wrong about crispy veggies? SO SO much. First of all these only contain trace amounts of vegetable in them. They are also fried in a lot of oil and high in sodium. Just because they are green or orange does not make them better than the classic potato chips.

Need something crunchy to snack on? Try popped chips or baked ones. Better yet eat some edamame with a small amount of sea salt, homemade kale chips, or crunchy raw veggies.
Flavored Water- “Vitamin infused water” no, just no. This is full of sugar and the vitamins come from chemicals. A bottle of vitamin water has more sugar than a bottle of coke!

Make your own flavored water by infusing it with fresh fruits. Drink some tea with honey or stevia.
Dried Fruit- These are full of sugar and often times fried. One serving of dried peaches has as much sugar as 3 cups of fresh strawberries.

Stick to fresh fruit.
Restaurant Salads-Some of us may think “oh it has lettuce it must be healthy” no no no no. Look up the nutritional facts on these things. Some of the popular chain restaurants salads have more fat and calories than their regular entrees. This is because they can contain fatty dressings and toppings such as bacons, croutons, and fried chicken.

Always look up the nutritional information of the restaurant where you are going to. If you must get a salad ditch the creamy dressings and fatty toppings for light dressings and fresh veggies.

As a fitblr I often see people talking about egg whites and how great they are and how bad egg yolks are. NO. It breaks my heart to think of all the nutrients of the egg yolk being discarded into eggy heaven.
Egg yolks are good!
Nutrients in a yolk: Egg yolks are jam packed with fat soluble nutrients these include: Vitamins A, D, E, K and carotenoids. These help you boost your immune system, keep your bones, teeth, and skin healthy, reduce the effects of diabetes, and help you reduce the risk of cancer.
Also: Yolks have loads of Zinc, Calcium, Folate and vitamin B12. All of which are super important for you.
But, but, but eggs are full of cholesterol! Yes, but you need this cholesterol! Cholesterol is needed in the body as it is the building block of hormones, also cholesterol helps repair damaged cells in the body. Cholesterol that comes from processed, super fatty food is bad for you, so don’t go out and eat tons of fried food. When it comes from this incredible egg it is not!
Additionally: Eating only egg whites can cause a biotin deficiency, biotin is the vitamin that gives us strong nails and beautiful hair!
In conclusion: EAT THE WHOLE EGG. It is only 70 calories for one XL egg. It is amazing for you. Tastes great. Now I am not saying go make yourself 20 eggs to make up for your lack of yolky days, but do not be afraid to incorporate into your diet.

Water Weight
So you go out for the night and don’t eat the healthiest options, the next day you step on the scale and the scale went up! You freak out that your night out made you gain weight. RELAX. What the scale is showing you is water weight.
What is water weight? Water weight is fluid retention. It is when your body is holding on to all the water in your body. This can cause you to get bloated, and see a higher number on the scale.
Why does this happen? This can happen for many reasons. Increased sodium intake, too many processed foods, not getting enough protein, not drinking enough water.
Not drinking enough water? Yes! The more water you drink the less water your body will retain. This is because when you drink a lot of water your body signals the organs that it is okay to let go of some of the water.
How to get rid of water weight? By drinking more water, cutting out processed and high sodium foods, sweating, cutting carbs.
Cutting carbs- although cutting carbs can help you lose water weight this will not help you lose fat. This is also not healthy. Many fad diets promise large amounts of weight loss in a small amount of time by drastically cutting carbs, however this weight will be gained back very quickly because it is not actually fat loss.
Water weight and fat are very different. This is why you should not freak out if you see a higher number on the scale. Fat is burned by being active, building muscle, and eating a proper amount of calories for your body.
So in conclusion if you see a high number of gain or loss on the scale in a rapid amount of time it is most likely water weight. Also make sure to get enough water everyday!
